Source and generation
Natural source: Urolithin A is a secondary metabolite of the natural polyphenol compound ellagitannin metabolized by intestinal microorganisms. It is not common in nature, but is widely distributed in the urine, feces and bile of mammals such as humans, rats, mice, cattle and pigs.
Food source: After the human body ingests foods rich in ellagitannins and ellagic acid (such as pomegranates, berries, nuts, etc.), the phenolic antioxidants in these foods will react with intestinal bacteria to produce urolithin A.
Application prospects
Urolithin A has broad application prospects in the fields of dietary supplements, cosmetics, and health products.
